Updates from November
Charge per email instead of per month
Some platforms force you to offer fixed-schedule subscriptions to your fans. Not Buttondown (anymore!). Go to your Paid Subscriptions settings, click Add plan, and choose the Per email style to charge subscribers every time you send them something you lovingly crafted.
This is great for anyone who sends multiple premium newsletters per month, one longform meticulously drafted message per quarter, or people who just want a little flexibility. Check out the changelog post for more info.
Pause your Buttondown subscription
Sending your newsletter should be fun. Something that you want to do every month. But sometimes things get in the way and you need a break. That’s why we added the option to pause your Buttondown subscription. Go to your billing page, open the Actions dropdown in the top-right corner, and hit Pause your subscription. Take as long as you need: Your list, archives, and design settings will be here when you’re ready to return to them.
From the blog
We only published one blog post this month. You’re heartbroken, I know! But the holidays are fast approaching and, fittingly, this month’s article was about the principle of least inbox interruption, or only sending really, really relevant and interesting stuff to subscribers.
There are a lot of good articles in the pipeline, though, so keep an eye out. They’ll be a great distraction when Uncle Frank starts waxing political and a distraction is exactly what you need.
Other stuff
If you’ve ever cursed our all-or-nothing export function, here’s an early Christmas gift: Filtered exports! Only download the parts you need.
While we’re on the topic of filtering, it is now possible to narrow down your subscriber view based on responses to one or more surveys.
Want to send newsletter notifications to a Discord server? Head to the integrations page from your newsletter dashboard and set up a Discord webhook.
Another integration we added this month was Umami, which you can use to track newsletter traffic without being creepy!
